New Honda CR-Z

January 11th, 2010

What do we know about that car? Everything? Not.

The trading process shall be started in few weeks and we don’t even know the price of that car for the US and European markets.

Let’s take a closer look at what Honda is offering and stay tuned for the updates.

The Honda CR-Z (Compact Renaissance Zero) is a compact hybrid automobile marketed by Honda as “the world’s first hybrid sports car.” [True?]  The CR-Z combines a hybrid gasoline-electric power train with traditional sports car elements. Aside from the fact that it will use Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist system. The specifications of CR-Z’s drivetrain are not publicly released yet.

A leaked brochure indicated that the JDM CR-Z will be powered by a 1.5 L (92 cu in) gasoline engine producing 84 kW (113 bhp) at 6000 rpm and 145 N·m (107 lb·ft) at 4800 rpm and an electric engine producing an additional 10 kW (13 bhp) at 1500 rpm and 78 N·m (58 lb·ft) at 1000 rpm. The powertrain was claimed to have a 0-100km/h(0-62mph) time of 9.7 seconds when coupled with an available six-speed manual transmission or CVT. The brochure did not indicate whether or not the same powertrain would be used outside of the Japanese Domestic Market. Motor Trend reported Honda plans to use their 1.8L, 140hp engine in the US bound version (along with the same IMA from the Honda Insight). European market would probably get Civic’s 1.8L engine and the whole car will be build on  Insight’s platform to cut costs, Honda insiders say.
